So at the MTV music awards, we got to see an amazing performance from the Powerhouse artist, "P!nk". It was her story during her acceptance speech that caught my ear. Did you hear it?
Speaking to her 6 year old daughter, who had complained that she was the ugliest girl she knew, and that she looked like a boy, Pink, gave it some thought and provided her daughter with a powerpoint presentation showcasing people who are androgynous rock stars.
"I look like a boy..."
What I love about this is that she took the thing her daughter perceived to be her flaw, and showed her that it can in fact be her SUPER POWER, the thing that makes her stand out from the crowd, if she is INTENTIONAL about using her gift.
I think Pink did an excellent job of helping her daughter to begin to appreciate herself and her own gifts and talent, just as she is. She didn't tell her to change, she encouraged her by showing her "there are people who look like you and are pretty awesome". Sometimes, we can't see our unique qualities as a gift, because they are so very unique that it's hard to find someone to relate to.
The other thing is that we are not born to hate.
It is developed from unkindness.
Speak kindly to one another... ALWAYS.
Speak kindly to yourself... ALWAYS.
More importantly, TEACH others to be kind to others....as this is the gift that will keep on giving.
BE INTENTIONAL about your beautifully flawed self. They are your super powers. Use your powers for good, never evil.
